Valentine’s Day = Lupercalia

Is there love in the air? People are scurrying about purchasing roses,  flowers, cards, candy, chocolate and lingerie amongst other indulgences in preparation for Valentine’s Day. “Christians” readily celebrate this day believing the myths about the day’s origins in love. The truth is Valentine’s day is rooted in Lupercalia which was a Roman festival that honored their idols. Orgies, wicked sacrifices, lusts and fertility rites were all part of this pagan holiday. Is there any difference in the  present time or do people still run around, commit adultery,  search for someone to be with for one night and bring gifts as a sacrifice for sex?

As followers of Christ, we are not to celebrate this day or any other Pagan festival. The true biblical holidays can be found in Leviticus 23.

Jeremiah 10:2 Thus saith the Lord , Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.  Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Love according to the Bible is keeping the commandments and dealing with one another with the love of Christ. Valentine’s Day is pagan, idolatry, and has nothing to do with the love of the Bible.
