Cops vs Citizens

It seems like every few weeks we’re hearing about some incident that took place between a cop and a citizen and it’s one where usually the cop violated the citizen’s right or dealt unjustly with them. This then gets blown up in the media, which in turn causes protest and now in worst case scenarios-people taking revenge by shooting police officers.

First and foremost, people have to realize that when these cases get blown up in the media, it’s because of propaganda. There are many injustices that are done all the time. How come only these particular cases make the headlines? Also, the news reporting is usually one-sided, not all the facts get reported fairly and accurately.

This all lead to the fact that we’re living in a corrupt world; from the justice system, the police organizational system to the citizens themselves and most people are not seeking out God and how he told us to live our lives.

Psalm 14:2-3 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

There were injustices that went on when Christ walked the earth and his sole purpose was to get the people to understand that we should be repenting from our sins and living a righteous life. Let’s look at one such example.

Luke 13:1-2 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Pilate was a governor at the time and he used these people’s blood as a sacrifice, which was a very horrific thing to do. But Christ response to this horrific act is worth taking heed to because he asked the people that told him about the incident, if they thought that because those Galilaeans died that way, that they were worse than anyone else. He then told those people that came to him that they should repent from their sins or they will also perish.

Let’s put this in context with some of the recent marches and protests that’s been happening. We’ll take the Baltimore and Ferguson protests-you had gang members (particularly the bloods and the crips) making a truce to march against police brutality.

Some of the gang activities include drug dealing, murder and extortion-all sins in the eyes of God, but yet in still, they’re out there protesting about an injustice that happened. This is an example of what Christ said, “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” These men should be focusing on stopping their own sins and living a Godly life. This is for all of us to take heed to, so when we die it will go favorably for us in the day of judgement.

No matter what our role in life is, the bible gives us guidance on how we should be living.

For Police Officers:

Soldiers during the Roman period had the same roles as police officers today and when they came out to John the Baptist to be baptized, they were told how to do their job and be Godly at the same time.

Luke 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

If as a police office, violence is not needed because your life is not in jeopardy, then DON’T USE VIOLENCE.

False accusations such as, saying things like the suspect was caught robbing a store earlier in the day before the tragic incident happened is also WRONG IN THE EYES OF GOD. That false accusation was made up to make the incident seem justified.

Being content with your wages means just that-be happy with what you’re getting paid and don’t steal money from a drug dealer you might’ve just arrested for example or try to extort people by taking bribery.

For Citizens:

The bible also tells us how to deal with the authorities.

Romans 13:2 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. God is the one that put these people in power.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

We often times see people resisting arrest or taunting the police by saying things such as, “shoot me, shoot me.” This is also wrong in the eyes of God. If you know you did nothing wrong or don’t have anything to hide, there is nothing for you to worry about. Because, rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same (Romans 13:3).

We urge everyone to take heed to these scriptures and forward this on to whomever you think might need to know these things.
