Nepal’s Child Goddess Shows Enduring Power of Traditions

Psalm 96:4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.

The Heavenly Father admonished the children of Israel by letting them know an irrefutable truth “all the gods of the nations are idols”. And for those in the Hindu and Buddhist faiths one of their most sacred idols is a 9 year old girl. This female child must undergo rigorous analysis and a series of secret rituals, after which she is declared to be the reincarnation of the goddess Durga. Although this custom has faced a great deal of scrutiny by children’s rights advocates, the Supreme Court of Nepal upheld the practice as being culturally significant.

Jeremiah 2:11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

The Bible tells us that the nations of this world hold fast to the idolatrous gods of their fathers, while in stark contrast the lawful and righteous practices of the Bible have all but faded from practice. Watching the devotion of the heathen to their child goddess only reinforces the irony of a world wholly devoted to worthless idols; while those who have been blessed to know the one TRUE Biblical GOD refuse to uphold the traditions of their fathers.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

The Apostle Paul reminds us to hold fast the traditions which we have learned by the word of God. As this world fall ever deeper into the grip of wickedness, it is time for those who profess to be Christians and follower of Jesus Christ to pick up their Bibles and unlock the treasures that are contained therein.
