Beware of Idolatry!

In a video that has recently resurfaced on the internet, we see a standing, graven image of a woman being held aloft by four men in a Catholic church. One misstep causes the idol to fall and break into pieces. The congregation members immediately cry out in screams of anguish and distress as if great harm had befallen a living person. This nonsensical behavior is clearly addressed in the Holy Bible as scores of scriptures condemn those overcome by the dreadful sin of idolatry.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 4:16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
Deuteronomy 27:15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

In many of the very first commandments given by God to man, the Heavenly Father condemns the making of graven images and warns that his wrath will not be turned away from those who do. Idolatry is referred to as an abomination and the corruption of mankind.

Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Micah 5:13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
Habakkuk 2:18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

Considering the fact that there is abundant evidence in the scriptures detailing the sin of idolatry, it is a fair question to ask “How did idolatry become the most prevalent of sins committed by the churches of today?”

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
