Side Piece Shout Outs: A New Low

whispering adultery

Occasionally, I journey into the land of urban radio to hear the latest propaganda and destructive messages that are being broadcasted to our youth. Last night, I heard a segment that was so alarming that I had to really sit back and ponder about who and what type of people would think this was a good idea to promote such decadence over the air waves. The segment was called the “Side Piece Shout-outs” on the Durtty Boyz Show of Hot 107.9 in Atlanta, Georgia.

In case you did not know, a sidepiece is more or less modern day slang for a mistress.

The rules to the Side Piece Shot Out are simple:
1. Don’t say your name
2. Only give the first name and part of town of your sidepiece

The Disc Jockey’s then laugh and make jokes about the varying fornication/adulterous relationships that several people called in to openly “shot out”  on the air. “Does your side piece have a man?” One DJ asked as he laughed and suggested that a young lady with the same name as the caller’s side piece called in earlier to shout out a different person.

With Aids, STDs, single family homes, and the general problems regarding violence, education and our economic situation, this is what a “urban” radio station is promoting? Is this their best programming choice? Is this meant to build or destroy the community? I believe the answer should be clear, but we must examine this in the scriptures.

I John 5:18-19 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

The scriptures explain that these types of programs are allowed to exist because the majority of this world is pleased to serve Satan. The children of the Most High find no pleasure in this type or any other form of lewdness (sexual sins).

What’s wrong with shouting out you side piece?

Proverbs 30:20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

This society will lead you to believe that there is nothing wrong with fornication/adultery. People commit the sin of adultery and then create excuses for why it is good. A man that has a lot of women is a “real man” according to this world but according to the Lord, he is a whoremonger.

Isaiah 3:8-9 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory. The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Committing fornication and then bragging about it amongst your friends or declaring it to the city of Atlanta is evil in the sight of the Lord. Remember the city of Sodom and its inhabitants were destroyed for fornication. Do we want the same judgment? We must also bear in mind that Abraham and his family were spared because they did not partake in the acts of fornication that were occurring throughout the cities of Sodom.

Ephesians 5:5-7 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

What should we do? How should we repent?

Psalms 38:18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Instead of committing sin and boasting about it, we should acknowledge that we have done wrong and repent.

2 Corinthians 12:19-21 Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying. For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

We were where many of you are now. We committed the same sins but through the knowledge and grace that comes through the Most High in Christ we were able to repent. Judgment is coming for all fornicators/adulterers. We pray that you hear this word and repent. If you have questions about how to change, we are here for you. Peace.
