Kwanzaa

Every year around the so called “holiday season” we put out a myriad of biblical teachings on the wickedness and idolatrous practices that’s associated with the celebration of Christmas. Most people will agree that the celebration of Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus’s supposed birth day, whether people still choose to celebrate it or not. In dealing with relatives and friends we also get the same reaction. But then people usually ask the question.

What about Kwanzaa?

Kwanzaa was created in the 60’s by Dr. Maulana Karenga and is celebrated from December 26 to January 1st. It is derived from African “first fruits” celebrations and has seven core principles that they focus on.

On each of the seven nights, one of the core principals is to be discussed and are meant to be reflective of African culture. Kwanzaa was created to be the first specifically African American holiday.

We have to realize that we should live every aspect of our lives according to the bible. Contrary to popular belief by some, the bible is not the “white man’s book.” The bible gives us all the days that we should celebrate and you can find a list of them here with scriptural reference.

As a people that are lost to our true identity we want to be everything that we are not. The bible tells us that the Israelites would be scattered all over the world (not Africans) and being oppressed in the last days and that we would take on other customs that our fore-parents knew nothing about.

Deuteronomy 4:25-30 When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the Lord thy God, to provoke him to anger:

26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 And the Lord shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the Lord shall lead you.

28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

We are not Africans and should not take on any African or other nation’s customs. The bible gives us the days that we should celebrate and most of them, but not all, can be found in Leviticus the 23rd chapter.

Leviticus 23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

To read these scriptures and still say that you’re going to celebrate Kwanzaa, you’re rejecting the Most High God and his commandments.

Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Dr. Karenga created Kwanzaa shortly after the watts riot as a way to unify the “black community.” From the time this was created till now, we do not see any unification of the “black community.” If anything, things have gotten worse-where the murder rate is preposterous amongst us. Abortion is at an all time high, the STD rate is off the charts; many single parent homes and the list could go on forever.

What we need to do is become righteous by following our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, repent from our sins and teach others to do the same. When we collectively do that as a group of people that will bring about unification.

Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

One of the problems that we find with people that refuse to see that Kwanzaa is not right to celebrate in the eyes of God is that they don’t read their bibles.

We encourage you to listen to the class below on the importance of living our lives according to the bible.
