The Prison System in Black and White!

It has never been a secret that African Americans and other minorities of color are disproportionately targeted by the Criminal Justice System of the United States. It is a well documented fact that the practice of mass incarceration and lengthy prison sentences for blacks can be traced back to the abolition of slavery. Documentaries such as “13th” and “Slavery by Another Name” attempt to expose the origins of the racist and systematic targeting of blacks by an institution that can best be described as modern day slavery.

But even with countless studies, documentaries, special focus groups and statistics, there is still another source of information which MOST accurately addresses this dilemma, THE HOLY BIBLE!

Isaiah 42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.

The prophet Isaiah tells us that the biblical children of God would be robbed of all things: land, houses, language, religion, even their identity. He also bleakly prophesied that they would be hid in prison houses with none to save or restore them.

Even Jesus Christ himself explained to the apostles that the rulers of this world care nothing for the children of strangers and would exploit them as they saw fit.

Matthew 17:25-27 And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? 26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

We can see in the teachings of Christ that we, as so-called minorities of color in the United States and scattered throughout the world are the strangers in many if not all of the countries that we now inhabit. As children of strangers we are subject to payments, punishments and abuses that the natural children are spared from. This is the reason why Whites in America are often given much lighter and more lenient sentences for identical crimes committed by their Black counterparts.

But there is yet another reason for this gross disparity in the representation of so-called Black and Brown people in the prison system and it will be a truth that only few can grasp.

Amos 3:1-3 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

The Heavenly Father gave his Laws, Statutes, and Commandments to the Israelites, our biblical forefathers. With this great gift came an incredible responsibility to be the lights of the word and ambassadors of Christ on planet Earth. When we perverted the Heavenly Father’s ways in favor of fornication, idolatry and all manner of evil, we quickly fell from grace. As the children of the promise and those who are under the covenant of God, the prophet Amos warns “You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” Despite the fact that we have become less than any other nation on the planet, we are still the biblical children of God. And as such, we will be shown no mercy when we transgress his commandments. It is true that so-called minorities of color face racism, classism and true hated by our oppressors in many countries throughout the world. But the word of God prevails above all.

Romans 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

As children of the Most High God we must commit ourselves to repentance and good works with the hope of receiving mercy in a merciless society.
