Craigslist Sale Ends in the Death of a College-Bound Teen

Brian Brown, a recent high school graduate and college-bound student, was killed during a Craigslist transaction. The 19 year old scholar-athlete was accepted to Merced College in California and was preparing to attend classes in early July. In preparation for his move to California, he was attempting to sell a PlayStation and some games on Craigslist. When he went to meet with the potential buyer, he was shot three times in the back. His girlfriend, that accompanied him to sell the items, drove Brian to Jackson North Medical Center Hospital. Brian Brown was then transferred to Aventura Hospital where he later died.

Brian received a full scholarship to college. He was respected and known as a good child. He leaves behind his grieving father and mother. Murdered because he aspired to do better in life. Why?

The amount of tragedy that unfolds in this story cannot be easily expressed. What is it going to take for people to wake up and realize that we are our own worst enemy?

The scripture says in Matthew 24:12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” This was prophesied during the time of Christ and we are living it now. People have become so cold and heartless that they will rob and kill you to fulfill their wicked desires.

Leviticus 6:1-5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (2) If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour; (3) Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein: (4) Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away…

These laws explain the commandment of “Thou shalt not steal.” They show that even in a situation where something was violently stolen (ie: car-jacking, mugging, armed robbery) that the person was to restore it. In this case, the judgment would be death because the assailant went beyond just stealing and murdered the teen.

Leviticus 24:21 “…he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.”

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

People are falling into dangerous perils, losing their opportunity to enter the kingdom of heaven and destroying peoples’ lives because of lust, covetousness and greed. The only way to gain mercy and avoid destruction is repentance by obeying the scriptures.

Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Revelation 21:7-8 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (8) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
