New Marriage Trend. “SOLOGAMY” Women are Marrying Themselves!

The Holy Bible warns us that “In the last days perilous times shall come” and that men would be lovers of their own selves.” (2nd Tim 3:1-2) This could not be more evident than in the growing trend known as Sologamy. Sologamy is a primarily feminist movement in which a woman will decided to forego traditional marriage of Husband and Wife and instead marry “THEMSELVES”! Although this movement is relatively new it is gaining traction globally with some websites even offering photography and wedding planning services.

Erica Anderson a Brooklynite who recently married herself was asked to define self marriage to which she replied “Women saying YES to themselves, meaning we are enough even when not partnered with someone.” Self love and self acceptance is not a sin in and of itself, but it must be tempered with the admonition of the scriptures or we risk falling into the sins of pride and rebellion.

Galatians 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

This same pride and rebellion is evidenced when a person casts aside the Biblical definition of marriage of Husband and Wife in favor of a fabricated, narcissistic, ego trip in which they claim that their love and devotion to themselves constitutes a marriage. In the book of Genesis the Heavenly Father created the institution of marriage with Adam and Eve. In the New Testament Jesus Christ himself confirms that this is the one and ONLY true marriage.

Matthew 19:4-6. 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

The concept of men or women deciding to remain single is not a sin and even encouraged in the book of 1st Corinthians chapter 7

The Apostle Paul and many others lived the life of a Eunuchs out of service to Christ, meaning they never married and devoted their lives to the ministry. Despite this fact, a mans decision to be a Eunuch or a woman’s decision to remain a virgin was never declared to be a form of marriage.

1st Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. 34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

The above scriptures illustrate the facts clearly that there are benefits to both marriage and remaining single. However, it is the pinnacle of pride and arrogance to believe that a persons love and devotion to self can take the place of the union of marriage created by God!

Proverbs 8:13The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
