Atlanta, GA – The HIV Hotbed of the South

During my weekly voyage to work, I would pass a monument dedicated to HIV that was adjacent to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. In recent months, the HIV Clock has disappeared but the issue is far from gone. A recent report from the Center for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 51 Georgians will contract HIV with Atlanta being the literal and figurative hotbed for the epidemic. Dr. Carlos del Rio from the Emory Center for AIDS Research is comparing Atlanta’s HIV infection rates to so-called “third world” countries like Zimbabwe.

The fact is HIV is spreading in certain zip codes and communities in Atlanta faster than others.  AidsVu.org, an Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health website dedicated to illustrating the prevalence of HIV in the United States, disaggregated the data for diagnosed and newly diagnosed HIV cases by race. In 2015, there were 32,818 documented people living in Georgia with HIV. Of that number, 70% were Black, 7% Latino and 19% White. When looking at the newly diagnosed cases, the numbers increased for “minorities” to 74% Black and 8% percent Latino while Whites dropped to 15% of the newly diagnosed cases.

Many of these cases, if not all, result from fornication. Almost 70% of males shared that they contracted the disease through homosexual relationships which is a form of fornication when you read chapter 18 of Leviticus.

Leviticus 18:1-5  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  (2)  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.  (3)  After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.  (4)  Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.  (5)  Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

This chapter speaks against homosexuality, bestiality, incest, menage et trois and adultery amongst other sexual sins. The Lord warns us not to defile ourselves in any of these practices that the Egyptians and other nations were practicing. If we obeyed, we would be fine but if we chose to follow the nations, there would be consequences. What was one of those consequences? Diseases.

Deuteronomy 28:58-61  If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;  (59)  Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.  (60)  Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.  (61)  Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

It is not a coincidence that HIV/AIDS rate is higher amongst a certain group of people. It is Biblical prophecy of the punishment that would happen to the children of Israel for following the sexual customs of the nations that were around us. As the children of the Most High, we were to wait until marriage to have sexual relationships and not be involved in this “sexual revolution” where you are free to have sex with whoever and whatever you desired. If we obey the commandments and commit ourselves to living righteously, HIV/AIDS would have little to no effect on our community.

Exodus 15:26  And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Hebrews 13:4  Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

It is time for us to repent of these sins. If you are already infected, it is not too late to repent either. The Lord will have mercy on his children and whether we are healed now or in the kingdom his mercy is everlasting.

Psalms 103:3  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases

Luke 4:40  Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

We pray for mercy on those that are already infected and that all the Children of Israel wake up and repent of fornication.
