According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Every year, Salmonella is estimated to cause one million foodborne illnesses in the United States, with 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths. With that being said, it is a common fact that the easiest way to infect yourself with this bacteria is to eat undercooked poultry. But despite this common truth there are still those who would take the risk of eating raw chicken in the form of the Japanese dish Chicken Sashimi.
Many people may be familiar with the Biblical dietary laws written in the books of Leviticus chapter 11 and 12th Chapter of Deuteronomy which prohibit the eating of various animals and sea creatures. But fewer people may be aware of the fact that the scriptures also forbade us to eat any of our food raw or uncooked. This was done to purge the blood out of a creature which was unlawful for us to partake of.
Leviticus 17:13-14 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
Even in the New Testament the practice of eating anything with the blood (uncooked or raw) was prohibited, clearly upholding the commandment given in the Old Testament Law.
Although the idea of Chicken Sashimi was not well received in the continental United States, it is still worth mentioning due to the fact that so many Americans are in the practice of eating undercooked red meat and Sushi. These are things we must abstain from, not just for health sake but for commandments of God.
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
