XXXTentacion Murdered in Miami: What is this world coming to?

Rapper XXXTentacion was brutally murdered on June 18, 2018. XXXTentacion was born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy and he died at the tender age of 20 years old. He was a rising star in the world of hip-hop and an icon among the youth. There are a few versions of the details surrounding his death but they all end with him being shot and slumped over in his car after exiting a motorcycle dealership. It is reported that he was killed for a Louis Vuitton bag and money that he had withdrawn from an ATM.

XXXtentacion had a Number 1 album on the Billboard Charts, several platinum songs, over 270 million streams on Spotify, almost 6 million followers on YouTube and lived in a 1.4 million dollar home. You would think that with such accolades and the resources that come with them he would be immune from the plagues of violence that curse our communities, but he was not. He was gunned down for greed and gain.

The case of this young burgeoning Rapper is not to be taken lightly. From his alleged abusive relationship with his pregnant girlfriend to the fact that his lifeless body was posted on social media moments after his death; XXXTentacion’s life and death shows us how so many ills of this society are affecting our youth. We must do better as a community and nation to repent of the evils we do.

Ecclesiastes 11:9-10 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. (10) Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

Even as young people, we are not to live carefree. The commandments are supposed to guide our every move. The reports of his alleged abuse against his girlfriend are all over the internet. This is not a condemnation of Onfroy but rather a point of consideration for those of us that are alive. We have to repent of our sins before the day of our death and live lives that the Heavenly Father and Christ find worthy. We all have to answer to the Most High in the end whether we are young or old. The above scripture shows that we cannot hide behind our youth; so will we be found worthy?

Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Deuteronomy 5:21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Deuteronomy 28:65-66 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: (66) And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:

Micah 2:8 Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.
The scriptures in Deuteronomy 28 foretold how our lives would hang in doubt meaning we never know when we will die in this violent world. The prophet Micah taught how men would be so wicked that they would rob men for their garments and treat their own people as enemies. We are now living in these prophesied days.
The Heavenly Father’s commandments and Christ’s teachings are here to guide us in a righteous way of living but because we refused to obey we now live under these curses. Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not covet and thou shalt not kill are all commandments that we must live by. Coveting what someone has without the desire to work to obtain it is a sin that leads to theft and murder. The people that robbed and killed XXXTentacion broke each of these commandments.

Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Even in XXXTentacion’s last moments, what did people do? Instead of helping, they took pictures of his dead body to post to social media. Christ explains in Matthew 24:12 that because sin is increasing in this world, people will become cold and heartless towards each other. What people did after this young man lost his life is a perfect example of “the love of many waxing cold.” Others “waxed cold” saying he got what he deserved because of his past indiscretions. Everyone has access to repentance if they choose it. Each of us should consider our own lives, think about the sins we have committed and repent. We will all die one day but what really matters is how we lived.

1 Timothy 1:9-10 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, (10) For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine…

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

We have to repent now while we are living because once we are gone there is no reconciliation or repenting we can do. Repentance is open to everyone no matter what sins we may have committed. Don’t let youth deceive you. Your last day could be tomorrow. How have you been living?
May the Most High have mercy on Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy’s soul. May we all learn from his tragic passing. We pray this article touches and helps in understanding repentance.
