“Son of God” Movie Perpetuates Myth of White Jesus!

Minister Paul Scott of the Durham, NC based Messianic Afrikan Nation has recently called for a nationwide boycott of the movie “Son of God”. Minister Scott says that he is outraged that in 2014 many people in this country still promote the, historically, inaccurate image of a Caucasian Christ. Although many Biblical scholars have openly attested that Jesus was far from Caucasian, there is still little doubt that this fallacy of a blond haired blue eyed Jesus has remained the prevailing image in a Eurocentric world.

Jeremiah 17:4
And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.

The Heavenly Father warned the children of Israel that for their rebellion to his law, they would be cut off from their heritage. This lost heritage would include their lands, language, history and ultimately their very identity.

In 2006, actor and director Jean Claude Lamarre attempted to create a more biblical depiction of the Biblical Israelites and Jesus himself in his movie “Color of the Cross”. This movie depicted both Jesus and the Children of Israel as men and women of color. Unfortunately, Mr. Lamarre was either unwilling or unable to validate his decision with Biblical proof, as can be seen in his pathetic and outright embarrassing appearance on the news program “Hannity and Colmes”.

Mr. Lamarre was asked repeatedly to provide scripture to support his casting decisions which he either could not, or would not do. So we have taken it upon ourselves to provide some of the scriptures that should have been referenced.

Daniel 7:9 (Heavenly Father has Wooly Textured Hair)
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

Revelation 1:14 (Jesus Christ depicted as having black complexion and wooly textured hair)
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Acts 13:1 (The apostle Simeon was called Niger, Meaning Black)
Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Although there are many other scriptures and historical evidence to prove the true image of Christ and the Israelites, we must not let this topic of color overshadow the message of repentance gifted to us by our Lord.

Mark 8:38
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

As followers of Christ, we are not to be ashamed of his true image, neither are we to be ashamed of his message of repentance from sin!
