America’s fastest growing drug problem

Nope, it’s not marijuana, even though more states are now allowing the use of medical marijuana.

America’s fastest growing drug problem is prescription drugs.

That’s right, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, pain relievers are the most commonly abused drugs. [source] Data indicates that 6.1 million people, aged 12 years or older admitted to nonmedical use of psychotherapeutic drugs and the numbers are only increasing. Also, take into consideration that the data only included people that admitted to it and didn’t account for people who did not admit.

The consequence of this problem is also very dire. Let’s take for example the mass shootings that we seem to hear about now every few months and the perpetrators that committed the crimes, almost all of them was hooked on prescription drugs.

The problem here is that people lean on their own understanding and oftentimes turn to these things as a way to escape their problems, but the bible instructs us to,

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5–6

There’s nothing wrong with taking prescription drugs according to the bible, but when we abuse it, we are defiling our bodies-which the scriptures refers to as the temple and we become sinners in the eyes of God.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Corinthians 3:17

When we also become dependent on them without diagnosing the real cause for our issue, that’s when we also go against what the scriptures says.

So let’s say for example, that you’re taking prescription drugs for depression. Instead of continually taking medication for depression, diagnose the issue, what’s causing your depression? What can you do to stop it? What does the scriptures says about that particular issue that you’re having?

There are many things in this world that can take us away from walking on that true path that was laid out for us by Jesus Christ to take and right now it seems as if abusing prescription drugs is the latest craze.

If you are one abusing prescription drugs, we urge you to stop (repent) and live holy in the eyes of God.

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your BODIES a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
