Eric Garner, a 43 year old father of six, was put in a choke hold and killed by the cops in New York City. The video of the incident was chilling as you heard Eric Garner yelling, “I can’t breathe.” Moments later he was dead. Everyone that was in the vicinity shared with the police that he broke up a fight and he was innocent. He still ended up getting handcuffed and then killed.

The scriptures teach us how to avoid these situations and how to react when they occur. Some feel that he did the right thing by not “punking out” but now six children are fatherless. Six children that had a father are now added to the millions of Black children that do not have both parents in their lives. Is this the best solution?

This world, rap music, movies and Satan teaches never back down, don’t go out like a punk, don’t be soft and a real man will beat down anyone that steps to him. The scriptures call that mindset pride.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride has gotten many of our people hurt, maimed or killed. When you apply the scriptures, you won’t look like you are “the man” but you will live to see another day. You will be able to regroup, use the wisdom of the scriptures and obtain justice the righteous way (through the Most High).

Matthew 5:25-26 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

The preceding scriptures explain that when we get into these type of conflicts, especially with someone you know is out to get you, humble down and comply. In this situation, it meant that he should have dealt with the police in a manner that would calm them down and comply with their commands. Perhaps that would have saved his life and he would have lived to fight against the injustice. Perhaps Eric Garner’s children would still have their father.

This may be a difficult thing for people to understand in these days because the media and the world (which are controlled by Satan) push the image of a prideful man. We must apply the wisdom of the scriptures and Christ if we desire to live righteously.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

We pray that the family of Eric Garner be comforted in these difficult times and that the Children of Israel repent.
