Adulterous Pastor Spreads AIDS instead of the Gospel!

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama has recently joined the ever growing list of congregations destroyed by an unscrupulous Pastor. The Rev. Juan McFarland confessed to the congregation that he was having sex with members of the church, on church property while knowing that he was infected with the AIDS virus. McFarland also confessed to using illegal drugs and stealing money from the church funds. In the wake of this growing scandal, members of the congregation are left wondering how this could have happened. The images of a disgraced Pastor and a grieving congregation has become nearly cliché in this world, but very few ever examine the follies that led to their appointments in the first place. The Holy Bible tells us in the book of 1st Timothy Chapter 3 the qualification of a Bishop, Deacon, Pastor, Preacher, Reverend etc.

1 Timothy 3 1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

The scriptures give us many key characteristics of a man who is qualified to sit in the seat of leadership. This man MUST be blameless, not covetous, not greedy of filthy lucre (Money) not a novice, and a person of good report and good behavior in the Lord.

Exodus 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

Many congregations in this society appoint leaders based on qualities that are highly esteemed in this world such as: Masters in Divinity, Successful Business Man, Dynamic Motivational Speaker or Celebrity Status. But until the Churches humble themselves to the wisdom of the Most High God and appoint leaders based on the qualification in the Holy Bible this trend of ungodliness culminating in church wide scandal will only continue.
